Over the past 20 years I've been fortunate to work with hundreds of exceptional clients and companies on a variety of projects and in a variety of roles. This page highlights just a handful of the projects I've worked on.
The existing Atlanta Technical College website was over 10 years old and didn't properly represent the college or the students who are working to change their lives by attending.
The major issue was Atlanta Tech had a tight budget and was facing a $20,000 maintenance fee to sustain their course catalog. So, I stepped in and planned, designed and developed a website with a new look and feel to increase traffic and student enrollment, plus created a database which contained their course catalog and even their faculty.
For the first incarnation of the Avastone website I developed 2 corporate websites (one Flash based, one HTML based) using a combination of technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Flash and Flash ActionScript.
The original site design was conceived by Atlanta design agency Times 3, converted into flash, and design esthetic used as basis for HTML version.
After 10 years, due to changing technologies, the site needed to be updated. So, I converted the original Flash design into an HTML 5 mobile responsive website.
In the early days of the web, everything was moving online that had traditionally been kept in silos - in other words, hidden away in directories on a long-forgotten server somewhere.
That's why I was asked to develop a web-based database to display the often-needed contact information of the employees of Coca-Cola Bottling Company in North America.
I reported directly to the Vice-President of Marketing for Coca-Cola Bottling Company - which wasn't intimidating at all. Seriously, she was very nice!
Because of the legacy servers and technology they had, I developed the employee contact database using Active Server Pages and Microsoft SQL server.
I was responsible for designing, developing and maintaining the website and content for Coca-Cola North America's corporate Intranet. At first, I developed the site by hand in an agile way, then as the project grew, I transitioned into the project manager in charge of a team of three developers, two copywriters, and was in direct communication with higher and higher levels of internal stakeholders within the company.
I was highly successful on this project for more than two years. The project ended when it was pulled in-house. I was offered to move into Coca-Cola and continue the project but declined as I "owned my own agency" - but I probably should have taken the position. If I did, I'd probably be a VP of marketing by now.
Over a 15-year span, I created 3 different corporate websites for DEI Systems and performed all the duties of Marketing Director, including: copywriting, marketing strategy, ad development, and ad placement - identify personas and target audiences, develop content for each audience and direct marketing strategy to achieve corporate goals.
Due to clever positioning and utilization of a variety of different marketing strategies and channels, I Increased sales for DEI Systems by 30% year over year for 5 straight years.
Electricall had purchased 3 websites prior to reaching out to me. Each website was a train wreck and wasn't SEO friendly. When I took over, I developed a brand-new site and worked to undo the damage the previous "web designers" had wreaked on their domain.
I worked with Google to disown all the trash links from porn sites and worthless web directories. Instituted analytics, created social profiles, worked on the Google My Business/Places map listing and brought Electricall into the top 3 electricians in Arvada Colorado.
As part of my sales routine, I reached out to a manufacturer's rep for the Purple brand of gel cushions. It turns out, he had solely convinced the makers of Purple to develop cushions for the elderly and those bound to a wheelchair.
In tests the cushions were not only more comfortable, they increased airflow under the patient. The added benefit was pressure wounds and bed sores, which are notoriously hard to heal, not only began to heal - but healed completely and disappeared!
GelTechCo asked me to create an e-commerce website specifically for selling the cushions to healthcare businesses like nursing homes and to their growing list of independent resellers / distributors.
As the Mortgage Industry began to move more and more toward automation and disintermediation, companies began laying their sales representatives off and closing their third-party origination divisions. While safe for years due to her ability to sell, when the company she was with shut down their TPO division, it left my Mom in a precarious position.
Eager to continue working, my mom asked me and my wife Shelly to help her start a commercial loan business - MillerHolden.
We invested the time and effort to set-up the business as a sub-chapter S corporation and develop marketing materials such as a website and the necessary forms needed to run the business.
In 1999, my wife Shelly and I were working for Kaplan Communications in Atlanta, Georgia as web team leaders, and I had the extra titles of part-time trainer, and resident Flash expert.
When the contract we were working on for BellSouth was ending, we realized that the website we built for our hypothetical business "Mindwhirl," was number one on Google under the "Atlanta Web Design" keyword. We learned that because our phone wouldn't stop ringing.
So, we had an entrepreneurial seizure and decided to go into business for ourselves.
I've developed two versions of the Noel H. Benedict website. The most recent version was developed to be HTML 5 mobile responsive, and be easy to update, so I built it inside WordPress.
WordPress makes it easy for a client to maintain their own website, but also allows me to flex my design and style muscles, or not - depending upon the budget.
Noel H. Benedict wanted a site that reflected his skill and professionalism as an attorney, but also make room for his other hobbies and interests to be highlighted. This site doesn't break the mold, but it's a great example of a small site that can be built fast on a $1,500 budget.
Worked directly with agency partner Voyage Communications and Southern Company to organize, coordinate and implement a Diversity and Inclusion microsite, which served as an internal company portal for employees to find information and education on best practices to be used in the workplace when working with others.
Developed wireframes and storyboards to inform and direct customer/employee journeys through the site and led team through the design, creation, development and implementation phases.
You may be thinking this is a nice site but wait until you learn it's one of the first sites I ever designed and built for our "new" company Mindwhirl. In fact, this site is over 19 years old!
Not to toot my own horn, but that should impress you! I pulled off a look and feel that has stood the test of time and still looks new. The only thing that gives it away is the fact that it's not mobile responsive.
I've tried to sell the partner owners of Value Sourcing Group on the idea of updating, but they like the site as it is. Plus, they're big on saving people money ... so I guess they like the fact they can depreciate the investment over 20 years or something.
Over 20 years, you would be amazed what happens. One thing you never expect is to have your raid server - which holds backups of all your client files from the past - drown.
It's through experience that you realize you need redundancy on top of redundancy in order to properly prepare for every eventuality. Having multiple drives with the same data in case one drive crashes isn't enough if they are all located in the same place. Lesson learned the hard way!
That said, these were the notable projects I lost on that server when an ice storm caused a pipe to bust and flood my server room in the middle of the night.

Additionally, created 20 different banner ads using Flash technology to promote the site across various targeted websites. The site went viral on twitter and received over 500,000 visitors.

U.S. Micro needed a site to help get awareness for their service of recycling, repurposing, and refurbishing computers, and technology equipment. They wanted to ensure they portrayed their process in a positive light as they had concerns from customers of private data on old machines not being destroyed.
We built the website around this topic and showed the customer in many ways that security was the core of the U.S. Micro philosophy.
